As a law enforcement agency, it is imperative that the Allen County Police Reserve recruit only professional personnel. Therefore each applicant to the Reserve must have the following minimum quailifications: High school diploma or G.E.D., valid Indiana driver's license, clear police record, be between 21 and 55 years of age, in good health, pass a general aptitude test, psychological evaluation and background investigation.
All new recruits are assigned to the Confinement Division as Group II Reserve officers. Group II officers are probationary recruits holding no actual police powers or arrest authority, yet Group II officers are assigned to duties at the Allen County Jail and Lock-up facility providing an integral support link to the law enforcement within Allen County. Each recruit will work for at least 3 months in this capacity before becoming eligible to proceed with their police training at the Reserve Academy.
Upon graduation from the Reserve Academy, the officers are commissioned by the Sheriff and may remain assigned to the Confinement Division or transfer to another division when openings become available.

Reasons for belonging to the Allen County Police Reserve are different for each of its officers.
